During my visit at Systems for Public Safety, a police vehicle outfitter, I spotted these three beauties in their lobby. Alas, the 2nd-gen Crown Victoria Police Interceptor from Lakewood PD had been moved back to the station — I saw it during my visit last week.

Oh yeah, that’s a real beauty. Someday, I’m going to get one of these old police cruisers, give ‘em a good work-up (aka, improvements under the hood and chassis), and then autocross it in Code 3.

That’s also a Mt Prospect cop car- what the Blues Brothers bought. I grew up in Mt Prospect in the 70s - the movie car   was the town’s only claim to fame.

That would be a good car to do that to- always liked the look of the Monaco.

Finding one intact will be a colossal challenge. Restoring it will be an even bigger challenge. Modding it to take a Dodge Hellcat Hemi will be even more so of a challenge...

Dang. I remember the Diplomats from TV. When I started driving, our local constabulary was in Malibus (Norfolk, VA, not SF).

It was quite the source of local pride to see our town’s police car show up in the Blues Brothers. They seem to have gotten it pretty right, too.

I was about 6 when they got the Monaco, and they kept them for quite a while - at least 4- 5 years, I think. We used to refer to them by the P-number- P- 5, P- 9, etc.

I think the Diplomat came next after those Monacos.
